As summer time approaches here in Copenhagen one of the first words that comes to mind is singing. Starting in April, every Friday Tivoli hosts an evening of music called Fredag Rock where artists come a play a free concert. While not all of the artists are Danish, many of them are–both locally and internationally known like Mø. To me, these concerts are what is the start of what we call Festival Season. Over the course of the next few months there are over 75 different music related festivals throughout Denmark, so it’s safe to say Danes love to bust out a good tune.
Danes love their hits just as much as they love their PH5 Pendel lamp or their Wegner chairs, so I gathered the Danish songs that most Danes would know. It still amazes me at how many artists come from Denmark considering how small of a country we are (population: ~5 million).
Since we can’t quite go to festivals this year, I thought it would be fun to ask my Danish friends for the list of Danish songs for you. While I think everyone will at least recognize one mega famous song, hopefully this playlist will introduce you to some new artists make you feel a bit more connected to the culture.
