As much as I love going away with my husband, during these COVID times I found I really longed for a good girls weekend away. Last weekend, I spent a few days down south at the coziest summer house along the sea near the town Rødby with my girlfriends. It got me thinking about what makes the perfect girls getaway weekend, and I think I’ve narrowed down the best tips for you below!
One.
Stay in a house, not a hotel.
There’s something really special about renting a house all together and sleeping under the same roof. Maybe it’s the pillow talk after getting into your PJs or rolling out of bed after you hear your girlfriends start to cook breakfast. My favorite parts of renting a house together was cooking together and spontaneously taking a huge bubble bath at 3pm. Another perk of renting a house is you can often select different amenities such as a hot tub, sauna, or even our last house had ping pong and a pool table!
Two.
Make a playlist.
Music is a must! And no one wants to be sitting on their phone all evening plugging in different requests. Create a shared playlist ahead of time or send the song leader all your recs before so she can get a playlist ready to go! You can listen to ours here!
Three.
Create themed nights.
This is my favorite tip as it is so simple, yet so much fun. This can be as little as a theme around what you’re going to eat for the dinner or as extravagant as you please with outfits, music, decorations and more. It sets the tone for the day and let’s everyone show off their personality a bit too. For my last girls weekend, we had a 90s theme for our first night and a mexican-themed dinner on the second night.
Four.
Try something new together.
Experiencing new things with other people helps deepen your relationship and also creates the best memories that only you can cherish. On my last girls trip, we tried winter swimming together. While I had tried once before, it was all of the others’ first time.
Five.
Make an itinerary, but don’t plan too much.
If you’ve met me for more than 5 minutes, you know I love to plan. Sometimes too much, but when going away with a group of girls making an itinerary or loose plan for each day is super important. Not only does it help you decide what to pack, it also helps you manage expectations and make sure everyone has something they want to do on the list. Keeping the itinerary loose, allows for spontaneity which I find is also a key ingredient to a successful trip!
