Who do you follow on social media? What types of posts and mindsets are filling your feed?
These are all questions that I recently asked myself, and I challenge you to do the same. It’s important that we actively take a better and more conscious approach to what type of content we consume.
For me personally, I’m embarrassed to admit that the majority of the black people that I follow are actual individuals that I know and grew up with. Coming from a very diverse part of the world, it seemed normal to me to see people of all colors on my feed. But again, these are all people I personally know. After I started asking myself these questions, I came to realize that very few of the accounts I followed to seek inspiration, whether it be about design, recipes, or just brands in general, were black run. This was something I want to change, and actively work on.
Here are some of my favorite fashion, decor and lifestyle content creators to follow ASAP. Some of these I have been following for years, while others I more recently discovered.
Jade Purple Brown
I discovered Jade over a year ago and was instantly drawn to her use of color. She merges photographs with illustration to create a colorful, pop-art inspired imagery. I have loved following her instagram @jadepurplebrown and can’t wait to purchase one of her prints for my guest room. You should check out her website and shop here.
